Support The Pink House Year in Review

1/25/2017

Support The Pink House had incredible success in 2015, achieving the main goal of preventing the demolition of The Pink House, a beloved iconic landmark for all on the North Shore and beyond. Now they are working closely with the Parker River Wildlife Refuge/Fish and Wildlife, who currently owns the house and it's land, on solutions!

As with many grassroots movements, it begins as a response to a cause or need which is usually dire. The necessity of attending to the immediate issue usually comes first, often getting by on a skeletal framework of volunteers, social media, and contact lists. That said, STPH managed to get bumper stickers, brochures, and merchant support window clings distributed around the area, created stationery, banners, contact cards and petition sheets
as well as tee shirts done, all with the PINK HOUSE logo.

STPH got this website, blog and web store up, along with two Facebook pages, Instagram, and Twitter account (where the house speaks in her own voice!). All the while, the Steering Committee met almost weekly at times through 2015, and were working with the Refuge, with whom we agreed to prevent the Pink House's demolition both in May and in the Fall of 2015.

We were out at Lit Fest and Conservation Week. We had a booth all through Yankee Homecoming. And we began meeting monthly at PITA Hall, starting with a hugely successful kick off Meeting in September which was attended by over 60 people in addition to a wonderful showing of our local elected officials (Councilman Earls, Selectman Wik, Senators Tarr and Ives, Reps Mirra and Kelcourse, and Congressman Mouton's rep Morgan Bell), 20 volunteers, press and a documentary filmmaker.  We followed that  by putting on a Holiday Art Show and Auction with just seven weeks to plan, to raise basic operating costs, as all of the above was out of our pockets.

WHEW!

We thank everyone who were part of this Herculean effort from the bottom of our hearts. All who participate are not only doing an incredibly good deed on behalf of their own interests but are also giving back incredible value to their neighbors and the entire North Shore community from Marblehead to Maine!

While we took December off for a much needed rest, we also used the time to work behind the scenes to move the ball forward, - and we have MUCH to tell at the next meeting, coming up on Wednesday, February 22, at 6:45 PM at PITA Hall, 8 Plum Island Turnpike, Newbury (just past the Plum Island Grille on the same side). PLEASE JOIN US - and Jan-March are also Bring A Friend themed! So bring a friend -Come away from the TV and join with a pal to hear all the newest developments - which are quite substantial - with hot apple cider and cookies!
