Sadly, on March 11, 2025, the iconic Pink House was demolished. After valiant efforts to save it, many members of our community were devastated by the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s (FWS) decision to tear down this local landmark. The Pink House, built in 1925, stood for 100 years as a welcome sign to all those heading to Plum Island. It shall always be an important part of our local history. The legacy of the Pink House will live on and its story will always be remembered! You can read about the grass roots efforts to save the structure and its history at Support The Pink House (here on the blog, and throughout the website). A group of local supporters have organized The Pink House 100th Celebration, which will be open to the public on Saturday June 14, 2025 from 9 am - 4 pm. The Celebration will kick off at PITA Hall (8 Plum Island Boulevard, Newbury) with an Artists Fair hosted by Kathy Culbert and Sandy Tilton. Many local artists, who continue to be inspired by The Pink House, have accepted invitations to participate as vendors and will be offering many special items for sale. All are welcome to attend! Support The Pink House, Inc. will be represented at this event offering some of the finest Pink House creations for sale. There will also be a Pink House cake cutting ceremony around 3 pm including "special guests". In addition, Alison Odle and Kelly Page are organizing community wide art shows and displays throughout the area. Many local restaurants and shops will be participating, offering Pink House cocktails, Pink House food specials & Pink House collectable memorabilia! A first annual Pink House Day map will be printed and available at PITA Hall, and some of the other establishments, as well as on-line to highlight all the special places to visit. Plans are coming together for this community wide celebration ensuring that the story and legacy of the Pink House will live on! Be sure to mark your calendar for June 14th and watch your local news and social media (and this blog!) for more details on this event coming soon.
